Dark Floor Deliciousness

This Tasty Tuesday I'm switching my focus from my favorite foods to rooms so good you'll want to devour them.

As our home remodel planning moves forward my obsession with dark floors only grows deeper. Maybe it's the rapidly shortening days and the impending desire to hibernate.

Or that dark floor infuse a shot of sexy into a room that I just cannot get enough of. Or maybe it's just the simple fact that this kitchen is too damn fabulous.

Ok, I think it's official then. We have to pull the trigger. Dark hard woods for the new floors it is.

One home renovation decision made! One million to go...

A Bright Shine

This summer we're going to be turning our sights to a new project - home renovation! I've been banking inspiration (for years!) and it will be fun to actually implement some of my long time fantasies for a dream home.

One of my latest loves is high gloss floors.

I think it gives such a lovely touch of a glamour to a space! I'm not entirely sure if they're puppy friendly - I'll leave that to the husband to figure out. I just know I like the shine!

Shine On

I'm currently swooning over the pairing of high gloss floors, sparse interiors, and decorative ceilings...

I love these open spaces with their modern style and historic character. Such a dream!

Living Etc. is hands down my favorite decor magazine. I really think they put all other mags to shame. And when I've just finished a big event like I did yesterday, I splurge by letting myself spend the $8 it costs to purchase one in the US.

Then the drooling begins...

I immediately fell in love the home of London designers Amanda Sellers and Martin Barrell profiled in the June 2008 issue. You can see more amazing shots of this awesome mix of modern and rustic at Inspacelocations.com

Then there is the beautiful styling of the decorating features.

The mix of natural wood elements juxtaposed with sculptural metal in this shot of the Legend Console Table by Christophe Delcourt is certainly drool worthy.

The mag is also a great resource. I learned a ton about flooring options from this recent article and shots like this gorgeous kitchen got me totally inspired to attack my own hardwoods.

It's just not fair that I can't get this mag delivered to me every month. I guess I'll just have to continue to indulge. What's your design guilty pleasure?

Dark Thoughts and Bright Ideas

I need to pick my next renovation project. Without a focus I'm so easily distracted!

Perhaps inspired by a weekend of nothing but velvety sand beneath my feet I suddenly care about what I'm walking on, so today, I'm all about floors.

Mine are currently a plain, but nice, orange-ish wood of an unknown variety.

They appear pretty in the photo, but in actuality have a fair amount of damage and are in need of some serious TLC. Or, I could simply take my floors in a completely different direction, i.e. out the door.

Right now, I am loving the yin+yang combo of white walls and dark floors.

The sleek sheen is repeated in the wood stool and leather chair in this Parisian apartment, while the rest of the white pops.

The stark contrast of dark floors and light cabinetry adds drama to what would otherwise be a rather benign kitchen.

And what woman doesn't need a little drama in her life?
