Healthy Competition

While I tend to stand more confidently on my fashion chops, a few weeks back I entered a little design challenge being hosted by South of Market and by some miracle my "Dramatic Dining Room for Eight" made the top 5 finalists!

apt_34-540x437

I have the chance to not only boost my interior styling self-confidence, but also a SOM giftcard. And trust me, my home needs all the help it can get.

So this is where I need your help luvies! The design challenge winner will be selected by audience voting. Can I get a little love?

Please place a vote for my dramatic dining room by commenting at South of Market here, on Facebook here or on Twitter. Just be sure to include @somtweets.

I would so appreciate your support!

Cheers,

GO TOTE-ALLY GREEN WITH BLOOMIES + REBECCA MINKOFF!

This is a Sponsored Post written by me on behalf of Bloomingdale's. All opinions are 100% mine.

Ready to unleash your inner handbag designer? RING IN SPRING GIVEAWAY III: ROYAL SCENTS

Last year, I featured the fabulous line of Royal Apothic candles created by one of my many LA acquaintances, designer Sean O'Mara. After experiencing them myself, I, like many other fans, was begging for a perfume version of the simple fresh scents...
Ummm... wish granted!! Not only that, but Royal Apothic is now carried at... (you guessed it)... Anthropologie! We just got our shipment in the other day, and I have to say that I loved every one of these extracts - on their own, but also paired together to create a custom blend.

For our final spring giveaway this week, we have a set of three perfume sticks for you to experience yourself! Violette Pastile, Fig, and a special addition, Hydrangea (not available in Anthropologie stores yet!).

So! Here we go again... one last chance to win this week! This time, leave us a comment letting us know what your favorite spring or summer scented memories are. For me, it's the wisteria blooming in my parents backyard.... now that's a sign of spring!

*the contest is now closed... thanks everyone for your fantastic comments! so much beautiful, scented nostalgia!

I've been toting around the grey houndstooth planner for a couple of weeks now and have received several compliments on it already! My favorite part?

Table for Two: Bohemian Sparkle (And a Giveaway!)

Since my birthday has always fallen close to Halloween, I've grown up with many themed parties - and not always to my delight. But, I've learned to embrace the season and make it my own, which is how I came up with the concept for this tabletop design. I wanted something warm to reflect the fall palette, with a little bit of sparkle for this birthday girl...
Inspired by the fabric overlay (a sample of a gorgeous pattern that used to be available through Schumacher), I pulled the saturated reds, golds and deep chocolate browns into all of the tabletop elements creating a very rich palette! The large dishes are actually a very deep plum from Ikea, the gold decorative dish is from a Japanese shop in our International District, and the napkins I created myself from leftover fabric.
I rummaged through the silver bins at a local antique store to find the mismatched silverware, and once again emplored the use of my kaarsKoker decorative candlestick sleeves to add another layer of pattern that complimented the fabric perfectly! The smokey glass vase was much more ideal than a clear vase in this case.

From the local flower market I picked up some mini calla lillies, chocolate sunflowers, echinacea, and another filler that I'm not sure of, but it's been dyed a vibrant orange for the season.
I had to have a splash of sequins for my birthday table, so I used them to wrap the napkin, and topped it with this cute decorative ribbon out of my stash. Then, evoking a bit more fall, I tucked in the brown velvet leafs to top it all off.

What do you think? Are you ready to try it yourself?? Well, good, because we're going to get you started by giving away a pair of these kaarsKoker candlesticks and sleeves!! You are absolutely going to love the versatility of these pieces. The top of the brass candlesticks twist off so you can switch the sleeves out seasonally - they are simply genius!
All you need to do is pop over to the kaarsKoker website and browse your sleeve options, then let us know which one is calling your name by leaving a comment below (be sure to leave your email as well so we can get in touch with you!). Or, if you're ready to purchase your own pair, use the code COCOK for 20% off at checkout (good through 12/25). kaarsKoker will also be including a pair of 6" ivory tapers with every pair of candlestick purchased through end of year! Can we say excellent hostess gift for the holidays?

The contest will end Friday... and who knows... maybe I'll design my next tabletop around the winner's pick!

Giveaway! The Well-Dressed Home

I've been doing lots of reading these days, finally catching up on some decor and design inspired books that have been sitting on my shelves. But the second I received a copy of Annette Tatum's The Well-Dressed Home, I dropped the others and dove right in to see how our design styles stacked up...
Well, let me tell you, my dears, this book reads like my manual for design. Annette is a genius at pulling together beautiful inspiration boards and then turning them into perfectly styled rooms based on genres like bohemian, classic, modern, resort, romantic and more! We're talking serious inspiration.
The book walks you through the process of taking cues from your wardrobe and turning them into rooms - and it has AMAZING photos. I'm telling you right now - you are gonna want this book on your shelf! Which is why we're giving away one signed copy this week... signed by Annette, of course!
So here's the question to answer in the comments below: If you could design a room based on any piece in your wardrobe, what would it be? The winner will be drawn Friday afternoon.

Annette is also offering coco+kelley readers a discount this week only when you enter the code 'coco' upon purchase! The book retails for $35, but for you it's $25! Such a deal! So, pop over here and order one. You won't be sorry! (PS - if you live in San Francisco, you'll be able to attend this event tomorrow night too!)

Giveaway! Champagne + Rubie Green with Michelle Adams

I tell you what. You New York gals have it good. In fact any of you within driving distance of NYC. I envy you! Why? Not only for fashion week reasons, but because you get to attend fabulous little events like this one!
Next Tuesday the talented entrepreneur, designer, and now co-founder of Lonny Magazine (is there anything this woman can't do?) Michelle Adams will be hosting a little gathering at Calypso Home (hello, fantastic!!) to talk about how to be a stylish, eco-friendly gal and, of course, show off her line of Rubie Green goodies.
Not just gorgeous as bedding, the eco-friendly Rubie Green fabric is fantastic for upholstery... like, oh, I don't know.. say a pink zig zag chair? (Yes, please!). And, it's is even more swoon-worthy in person. Which is why we're sending seven lucky readers seven pairs of tickets to the event next week! Yes you and your BFF will meet Michelle, sip champagne, and take home goodie bags worth bragging to your friends about.
Since Michelle will be offering her own little tips throughout the event (like the ones above!) to enter for the tickets, we're asking you to leave a comment below giving us your own favorite tips for designing and entertaining in a stylish, eco-friendly way.

I'll start you off... *I carry my favorite reusable baggu bags in shades of olive, fuschia and aqua wherever I go. They get me lots of compliments for being eco-friendly, cute and functional!

*thank you all for your replies! the winners have been picked and notified.

Style + Substance: 20 Years of Elle Decor!

My dears, let's just ask ourselves one question today, shall we? Where would we be without the inspiration that is Elle Decor? Yes we have our other favorites too, but there's something about this glossy that keeps us coming back for more...
20 years ago in October, Elle Decor put out its first issue and Margaret Russell's title was Senior Editor. Today? The Anniversary issue is out and gorgeous as ever, and Miss Russell is Editor in Chief.

In her letter to readers she writes, "... though I'll admit a few of or previous stories made me wonder, What the heck were we thinking?, hundreds of photos... are just as relevant now as they were then. For me that's the definition of a timeless room - it's one that still makes your heart pound, 20 years later".

So, I thought it would be a perfect time to ask you all... what Elle Decor rooms have made your heart pound? What covers have drawn you in because you just want more more more?
For me, the Dec/Jan '95 issue is one that strikes my memory - I believe it was one of the first issues I bought off the stands (at the age of 14!) and devoured every page of. I still have that cover room in my inspiration files. And, more recently, a cover that demanded I sit down on the couch right then and there just seconds after I pulled it out of the mailbox so I could see more of this stunning space. And when you look at these two, they're quite a contrast, don't you think?

But, maybe that's why we love this magazine so much. The ability is has to bring us interiors that range from fresh, chic designs that we can actually recreate in our own homes...
To those that evoke awe, inspiration and envy (definitely another favorite editorial!)...
With so many stunning spaces to drool over, it was a must that they all be collected in a beautiful book to mark the occasion... and we're giving one copy away!
While the rest of you can pick up your personal copy of Style and Substance on October 28th, one lucky winner will get their own advance copy, signed by Margaret Russell herself!

The book cover features an interior by Victoria Hagan that was the top-selling magazine cover of all time for Elle Decor (not to mention it served as the inspiration for the home in Something’s Gotta Give - one of my favorites!) and is filled with those heart-pounding interiors that Margaret refers to.

So, what do you need to do? Easy. Just leave a comment below noting your favorite Elle Decor cover (if you need a little help, feel free to browse the new cover gallery to refresh your memory), or the most inspirational rooms you've filed awayl. The winner will be drawn on Monday! Good luck!

Contest Winner! (And Scented Memories...)

I've never created a post inspired by a giveaway, but everyone's comments on what scents evoked memories for them set me over the top! So, I thought I'd share my own while I announce the winner (and a special deal for c+k readers!).
All of my favorite scents have to do with two of my most memorable places in the world - the cliffs of Sorrento where the lemon groves mix with salty sea breezes, and growing up in California where the sunshine made everything better...
If I had to pick only one though, Rosemary is probably my most favorite scent in the world. If I happen to walk by a bush, I always rub my fingers through it to make the scent linger with me through the day. It reminds me of my parents' garden and my father's cooking...
I love everything about the ocean, but the fresh scent of being out on it (not sitting in a stinky harbor) when you can feel the salt settling into your skin, mixing with sweat and suntan lotion... it reminds me of growing up on the beaches of California and my summer in Italy.
I recently rediscovered my love for Geraniums - their distinctive scent evokes warm summer days spent in the backyard of our family's home in Venice Beach.

And now the winner! Lauren Milankovski, congratulations! And for the rest of you - a special discount of 20% off any purchases made at Royal Apothic. Simply use the code "coco" upon checking out. Happy shopping my loves! Your homes with thank you!

C+K Giveaway! Royal Apothic For the Home

Three years ago, designer Sean O’Mara found himself between two very successful, yet seemingly un-related careers: an expert in the beauty industry and interior design. Then, a chance discovery at a Notting Hill bookshop became the link that tied together his worlds. Tucked high on a shelf in the antique stall, a centuries-old apothecary manual sparked an idea that spun into Royal Apothic.
This fabulous company offers a collection of Interior Perfumes and hand-poured Luminarie Candles whose scents were blended from the ancient formulas found within the pages of the apothecary and Sean's own vivid memories of travel and childhood.

Decadent scents like A Venetian Grove and A Cutting Garden sound like fabulous indulgences for the home, don't they? Well, one lucky winner will find out when they pick out one perfume and one candle for their own! To enter, simply answer this question using the contest widget below:
While you're at it, pop over to the Royal Apothic website to browse the selections you may be making as the winner! We'll draw on Friday - good luck!
