Scenes from DC

My dears, I'm taking a break from our regularly scheduled Work Wear to bring you a few scenes from what has been an amazing tour back east. The husband and I have had a ball soaking up the sun, people watching and leisurely strolling through as many parts of town in each place we've visited. Our stay in DC couldn't have been more lovely. I could have wandered the sweet streets of Georgetown for days on end.

photos by me!

And New York is proving just as idyllic. Ah the joys of time away from your daily routine. Returning home is going to be the rudest of awakenings.

I promise I"ll have some great fashion week reviews and a complete recap of my time with the Rue ladies when I return!

Come Sail Away

It may be October, but I still harbor lingering thoughts of all things soft and light.

It's got to be beach weather somewhere.

Fly Away Friday

This week's trip is a fantasy realized. I promised I'd share a bit of my jaunt to the eastern shore that I took with the s.o. last week.  We had a wonderful week packed full of family and friends. We survived the onslaught of socializing by kayaking with dolphins, devouring books (and the first of the fall fashion mags!) and lounging at the beach. Words can't really do the idyllic setting justice so I'll just show you what I'm taking about.

Welcome to the classic east coast beach house my uncle's family owns.

Complete with stone fireplace and stuffed animal moose head above the mantel.

The resident housecat, Tuesday, tucked in his arm chair

Dock + teeny tiny sailboat (almost swamped by 5 people - luckily the water was only 5 ft deep!)

and the most beautiful sunsets you've ever seen.

Hope you all have a lovely weekend!

Viva La Mexico

I had an entirely different post worked out in my head for today, but while going through my ritual evening browse Caroline Electic had to go and introduce to me Hotel Basico. I am now transfixed. Mesmerized. I'm mopping up puddles of drool.

First the hotel is gorgeous. On the Mayan Riviera south of Cancun, you can easily split your time between touring the ancient ruins of Chichen Itza or just look cool lounging in the sun.

The hotel's decor is simple, understated and fabulous.

The rooftop pools are modeled after the soil tanks found throughout the region.

The rooms appear open, airy, and just plain perfect.

And this is just the beginning. Hotel Basico is part of a family of amazing hotels scattered throughout Mexico. If Basico isn't to your liking, then perhaps you'd prefer Hotel Azucar.

I love the pop of the pink against someone's favorite kelly green.

This takes minimalist to a whole new level. And.I.love.it.

I have to stop now. I'm supposed to furnishing a house not purchasing plane tickets but this is oh so tempting!
