THE DOMINO ARCHIVES REVIVED!

Guess who's back, darlings?? No, not the beloved magazine itself, but the Domino photo archives are slowly but surely returning to us at brides.com!

So far just a handful of stories have been re-posted, but there are more to come...and the large scale photos have me giddy with joy! Thank you Conde Nast for finally making a smart move on that one! And for those of you looking for a larger Domino fix, don't forget my flickr group, The Domino Magazine Files, which has tons of scans and photos from the original archives.

Being a shoe addict myself, I thought I'd try my hand at it, but with a slightly different twist.

The Domino Magazine Files

I'm not sure what's worse. The day we found out that Domino was closing, or today, when I went to pop over to the website only to find that it was, indeed, gone.

My immediate reaction was panic. Why? Because I'm a procrastinator and with all my good intentions of spending some time on the site, weekend after weekend, downloading favorite inspiration photos... I haven't.

Pouting? You bet I am. All that I'm left now are the photos I've had in my files. Which is why I just created a group on Flickr called The Domino Magazine Files that I'm hoping you will join! It will be a place JUST for photos from the pages of Domino. Because I have so many missing from my collection, and I NEED THEM!!

So, be nice, and add yourself to the group. Share your Domino pics. Feel the love. Spread the word. Thank you!

Overdone, but Still

I know, I know, we've talked the Domino thing to death, but The New York Times threw out some serious blog love in yesterday's article about the mag getting the axe. Go Decorno, Design Sponge, isuwannee and Apt #34 fave Sewbettie!

And lest we forget, two more reasons why Domino rocks.

Domino Magazine Closing: Is It Really Over?

According to WWD, and reported on Apartment Therapy, it looks like this time the rumors could really be true... Is Domino done for good?

No more jumping up and down on the bed every time I receive a new glossy cover in my mailbox? (Ok, so the February issue was a bit disappointing... but still!). What's a girl to do? You better start pulling images out of your decofiles now because it looks like the website will be departing as well... Oh, what a sad sad day! I'm crossing my fingers that this somehow isn't true. Please don't tell me all we'll have left are the stuffy overpriced pages of Elle Decor? (Gorgeous eye candy, but simply unattainable for the majority of us). Domino has been the one magazine to make design accessible and simple. Please don't go!

Michael Smith Tapped to Decorate White House

I just LOVE a little inside scoop, and this is a good one!

Domino has just reported that designer Michael Smith has been tapped to design the White House interiors for the Obamas. Seriously? I cannot WAIT...

His style is classic perfection, and I think he will do quite an amazing job in keeping things somewhat traditional while making some much needed updates!

Domino’s editor in chief, Deborah Needleman said of the Obamas’ choice, “It will be exciting to see Michael Smith’s great talent for making grand spaces intimate and livable at work in the White House... (he) has the right amount of reverence for the past and faith in the future that will hopefully allow the rooms to reflect both the history of our nation and the executive mansion and the change and progress that the Obamas want to bring to America.”

I mean, if the man can do this to the smallest guest room ever... just think of what he can do to the White House! (Don't you just love the oversized grey toile-inspired walls ?) Check out the full story right here on Domino.
