DECO + DAZZLE
I absolutely love tops (like this one from One Vintage) that provide all the embellishment you need to dazzle at a party. Black pants or jeans, a few simple accessories, and this look is done! Of course, if you're looking to accessorize an existing ensemble (like me) then a statement making clutch or stacks of bangles could get the job done.
I've already started searching for some more affordable pieces to fit the bill, and stumbled upon these goodies!
I am loving these clutches from Santi as options (although they're still a little more than I'd like to spend) and think that the top one is perfectly festive for the holidays! Black with pops of color, like Christmas lights at night! And, of course, the one below it has a perfectly deco vibe too. Which would you choose?

FEATHERING THE TABLE
I had grander visions in my head than I had time to actually pull it the table together, so after a day of frustrating lack of success in finding half the pieces I wanted, I decided to keep things simple and work with what we had.
Grandmother's Haviland china, my parents' simple pale pink cloth napkins and crystal wine glasses, my own tea glasses and simple grey glass votives (from Ikea) - all served me well. I purchased a yard of silk dupioni remnant fabric in a deep greyish-aubergine color and layered it over my linen tablecloth (from Target).
Of course, my favorite pieces were the feathers - purchased at the fabric store as well - in our heirloom silver urn. I had originally thought of doing all black, but I loved the "chocolate" that was more of a plum color and the antique gold. They were all I really needed to make me happy about the table! I also purchased some tulle to tie up the napkins. I thought there should be a soft touch of black somewhere else in the table.
Here's my very dreamy photoshopped shot. Table all a-glow! And a good lesson learned. A) Start planning my table earlier next year and B) Thanksgiving is the perfect holiday to go easy on yourself. Be thankful for what you have instead of wishing for what you have not. I loved the table for what it was - a collection of pieces from generations of our family providing us with a warm table to celebrate with loved ones!

Wedding Wednesday {Interview with Alison Events}
You've developed a wonderful and highly regarded wedding design business. How did you get started and to what do you attribute your success?
What is the best DIY detail, and conversely, the biggest indulgence you've seen at a wedding?
One of the coolest DYI ideas I am proud of was executed at a wedding we did in Utah this past year. The client was really into skiing and had traveled together and had tons of photos of childhood trips too. So we used old wooden skis as their guest book and then hung them up on the wall surrounded by all the ski photos in old wooden frames. You have not seen this image yet because its going to be in Martha Stewart Weddings this winter. Look out for this issue in December as well as on our web-site once it hits stands. Amazing photos.
Where do you go for inspiration and to keep your ideas fresh?
I love photography, traveling, design and dining out. I rarely get inspired by the wedding industry actually. My friends are all creative people so I often am inspired by them. They are photographers who travel the world, designers, architects, writers, painters, teachers. I also get inspiration from books and magazines. I love Elle Decor, Dwell, Vogue, Travel and Leisure, Sunset, Food and Wine and Real Simple. I pull from all sources in addition to reading and searching the internet. I also love to cruise thought vintage stores and flea markets, always inspirational things there as well as farmers markets.
As brides have access to online resources and do more and more of the planning themselves, what is the nugget of advice or insider info you'd give to a destination bride?
For sure read my book (LOL) as well as buy wedding magazine that feature your destination and go on line and research your destination. Perhaps someone else got married there and made a whole web-site about the site and then you have all the info you could ever need?
When I am traveling to a new place I use social media ( Twitter or Facebook) to ask if anyone has been there and what the best things are to do and see. I also will check Travel and Leisure's web-site for back log articles as well as the New York Times travel section which has covered tons of places. Then I look on blogs and follow a ton of people on Twitter who specialize in traveling. Photographers are a great source for info too.

A LITTLE HOLIDAY HELP?
Dashing in between stores on your lunch break, or braving mall crowds on the weekend, in search of that perfect gift. Scheming up holiday decor ideas, but never having enough time to actually put it them together. Entertaining and party hopping. Wrapping and unwrapping... there's not enough time in the month to do it all!
So, might we make a suggestion? Hire us. After all, that's where the 'stylish services' part of coco+kelley comes in. We're here to do it all and make you look good doing it.
Like this holiday decor board we put together for a couple's first Christmas last year (complete with a full consult), showing them how to add to the loads of registry items that they had just received for their wedding to create a simple palette to build on year after year.
For those of you across the country we offer services like this and more, including creative decor and entertaining ideas, as well as personal shopping. For those of you here in Seattle, we can pretty much do it all!
So, if you're ready to let us handle the stress so that you can get back to glamorous, just give us a ring or a ping and we'll get right on it. Or, maybe you should pass this post along to the co-worker going crazy in the cubicle next to you? Tis the season, after all...
PS... the gift guide will make its debut next week! Until then... check out last year's for some fun goodies.
