The Trunk Trend

I've just begun collecting inspiration for my bedroom redesign, and I've completely fallen for this room, despite the fact that I do believe that's a denim duvet on there...
It's the warm neutral palette with that touch of metallic that wins me over every time! In this case, a pair of insanely beautiful trunk side tables that are so out of my budget. The trunk or suitcase side table has become quite the trend recently, but this style is so classic I can't imagine regretting them in a few years.

Naturally, I had to try and seek out some options that might be within my price range, and, of course, discovered one glamorous cocktail table in brass (no, no, it's not even close to the budget, but how could I not share?), and two pieces that would actually work! I love the idea of a bare wood with metal hardware like these cedar cubes, and a very classic style trunk table in leather as alternatives. Will they make the final cut for nightstands though? You'll have to wait and see...

Recovery Day

After a joyous celebration, I need a bit to catch my breath. Back soon lovelies!

Fall Palette Inspiration from Alexa Chung

I'm mildy obsessed by color palettes right now in two areas - one of which is my fall wardrobe, and the other of which I'll be sharing very soon. The days here in Seattle are starting out foggy and cool, which is a sign of the grey weather to come and a calling to update the closet with some cozy pieces...
Stumbling across this editorial in Marie Claire featuring the adorable Alexa Chung and her picks for fall, I was immediately drawn in by these two shots - not just for the clothing, but the setting too! The gorgeous color of that chair, the black grout setting off eggshell white tiles, pinstripe wallpaper and rich leather...
Last year I was more focused on being more adventurous with color, but this year I think I'll concentrate on more luxurious pieces in rich neutrals and adding a few accents like olive green, mustard, and a toned down coral... in my home and my wardrobe!

On Vacation With... ME!

Well, my lovelies, I have to start by saying THANK YOU for letting me 'escape' for a month while taking a little blog vacation and time to refocus and rejuvinate! I've been busy busy, re-imagining the blog a bit, working on the upcoming launch of the c+k wedding blog, and catching up on life in general. How great were all the vacation guest posts too? Some amazing places were featured, and I thank everyone who send in a submission - unfortunately there just wasn't room for all of them!

So, to end the week, I thought I'd share a bit of my own recent vacation to San Francisco for the Blog Out Loud event (more on that next week!)...
The Marina area of SF is one of my most favorite spots - quiet, gorgeous homes and apartments, right by the water with a view of the Golden Gate Bridge... and fabulous food and little shops!
The boy and I treated ourselves to some fabulous food around the city. We enjoyed an insanely yummy lunch at A16, wine with good friends at Press Club, brunch with Anne (of the City Sage) and her husband at Absinthe, discovered a new favorite specialty roll at Sushi Groove South, had a wonderful dinner with friends at Maverick and I topped things off with a lunch date on my last day there with the adorable Melissa of Ruby Press at 54 Mint.

Of course, a trip to SF wouldn't be complete without a little shopping! While I was very good at not bringing back any purchases with me (that's right - ANY) I was definitely lusting after a few pieces from the shops we popped into!
One of my favorites was a new shop in town, Seams Boutique, owned by my good friend Stephanie who has done an amazing job putting together a collection of very wearable and stylish clothing, accessories and jewelry. I fell in the love with the necklace (it says besos!), and this oversized bag.

Another shop we popped into after brunch with Anne was Propeller Modern, curated by the owner Lorn who shared with us some the stories behind the amazing pieces he carries. My favorite was this chair that was actually created by a student designer who was chosen to have her piece reproduced by Bernhardt Design. The bowl is also an amazing piece of art - the ceramic flowers are actually 'sewn' onto the bowl with thick thread, and the piece is handcrafted in Peru. I die!
We hit up the farmers market at the Ferry Building, where I was delighted to see the Farmer's Favorite Peach... ;)
And finally, the Blog Out Loud event took place on Sunday evening at BellJar, where we could barely stop ooooohing and aaaaahhing over the the gorgeous shop long enough to hold the panel! The event was fantastic and well-attended, and it was so wonderful to meet some fellow bloggers and readers in person!! Next week, I'll be sharing more on the topics discussed at the event, but for now, I will just say thank you to Rebecca and Megan for putting it all together! (By the way, that's me with Anne and Rebecca!)

Whew! And that's a wrap. I'll be back in full swing next week and I can't wait to share some new features and ideas with you... Have a fantastic weekend all!

xoxo,
cassandra

On Vacation With... Dana Cordova

The next chance I get I'm going to relive my honeymoon in Playa del Carmen. If you'd like to too (minus the private stuff!) here are my suggestions...
Stay at the über hip Hotel Basico in the heart of downtown Playa del Carmen.
For your first day lounge at the Blucacao beach club--perhaps reading on a bed in the sand in morning and moving up to the pool for an afternoon cocktail and the most amazing agua chile shrimp I've ever had...
In the evening, head to Yaxche on 5th to have my favorite dish, Cochinita Pibil (a specialty of the region), then over to Dablito Cha Cha Cha for drinks and to check out what the super stylish Argentinean girls are wearing this season.
Around 11:30 hop over to the La Santanera club for a cool, Naco (Mexican slang for trashy) chic experience and dancing.

Of course, all while sporting a fabulous outfit!...I could go on for days, but that's a slice of the ultimate day in "Playa." Buen Viaje!

Happy {Early Wedding} Weekend!

Hey all, I'm taking off a bit early this week because it's my little sister's turn to get hitched! We're headed into the hinterlands for a massive party on a farm.

Congrats to everyone getting married this weekend - and to all, enjoy the final days of August (ahhh!)

Everyday Beauty

Today, I am guesting over at the fantastic Ms. Jenn's {Bits of Beauty} blog where the eyecandy and inspiration never stops. She asked me to join in on her {everyday beautiful life} series, and I have to say that the timing couldn't have been better..
One of my favorite pieces of everyday inspiration? Taking a walk through a new city. This is, of course, from my recent trip to San Francisco where every little doorway made me squeal like an annoying 14-year-old. There really is beauty in the everyday. To find out what else inspires me, pop over to see the post!

On Vacation With... Julie Wolfson in Tokyo

For my second visit to Japan, I spent a week in Tokyo visiting the bigs sites, museums, and shopping areas and well as exploring the hidden restaurants and bars with friends. Tokyo is a magical place filled with amazing architecture in a vast urban landscape and countless stores, restaurants and bars hidden in the alley and passageways throughout the city. I am lucky enough to have several friend there. I stayed with my cousin who lives in Rappongi and I also spent two nights staying on the 53rd of The Ritz-Carlton. From both locations I could not stop staring at the views. It was heaven.
The view from the club floor of The Ritz-Carlton at breakfast. Yes that is Mount Fuji. It was so breathtaking.
At the top of the Mori Building, the escalator leads visitors though the M entrance into the Mori Art Museum on the top of the building with panoramic city views from the 52nd floor and a roof deck.
One day I visited the amazing National Art Center building was designed by Kisho Kurokawa. I discovered to intricate and gorgeous work of Saito Meo.
2121 Design Sight is behind Tokyo Midtown and The Ritz-Carlton. The building was designed by Tadao Ondo and when I was in Tokyo they were showing a gorgeous exhibit of Lucy Rie pottery that highlighted her relationship with Issey Miyake. Most of the pieces were exhibited on a bed of water next to a waterfall wall. It was the most meditative and peaceful place I have ever visited.
Walking through al alley in Midtown Tokyo.
Meiji Shrine in Harajuku
Mint Designs relaxed separates with meticulous details. I love the pattern and the draping and detail on the front of this dress. Plus the sneakers are too cute. Check out the trim on the cardigan.
The Louis Vuitton Murakami window.
Out shopping on Ometosando.
Patterns in the window at Tsumori Chisato.
One night I went scotch tasting with Jun Ago of Suntory. We ended the night at a hidden bar called Bar Rage that features contemporary Japanese mixology. I also enjoyed sweets at Higashiya in Nakameguro. Located on the Meguro River, a renovated old house in the main location of Higashiya serving traditional sweets and tea. Along the river are several amazing boutiques and restaurants including Cow Books. In the springtime, it is also one of the best places to see cherry blossoms in Tokyo.

On Vacation With... Nancy Liu & Kevin Chin!

My wife, Nancy of Nancy Liu Chin Designs and I love, love, love traveling. Because we are both in the wedding industry, myself a photographer and Nancy a floral and event designer, we love being inspired by the many places we visit.
One such place was a recent vacation to One & Only Pamillia in Cabo. We love the beauty and romance that this property exudes. We celebrated my birthday dinner at Agua Restaurant. The restaurant sits majestically on the edge of the rocky beach. There is a beautiful terrace that looks over the ocean. And at the very edge are 4 special private booths. Because it was a special celebration for us, we were able to secure one of these special tables.
We started our meal with a very refreshing heirloom tomato and mozzarella salad, and a beautifully seared piece of foie gras. For our entrees, I had a wonderful sea bass fresh from the sea, and Nancy had hen that was juicy and tender. For desert I had crème brulee and Nancy had her most favorite desert in the whole world – tres leches cake. It was the most romantic meal and made me want to marry my wife all over again.

Wedding Wednesday {Destination}

As the joyous shock of my engagement has settled in, I've collected myself enough to turn to the actual wedding planning and the expanse of decisions that lay before us - it is a little daunting to say the least. I am thrilled to say that we have successfully made our crucial first decision  - where to have our wedding!

In honor of this first major decision, here is an inspiration board that captures the spirit of our location and the ambiance we hope to create for our guests.

Can you guess where we're headed? I couldn't be more excited! Are you ready for it??

We are going to get married in....Mexico! In a tiny fishing village on the Sea of Cortez in Baja, to be exact.

No decisions about colors or flowers or dresses or the like have even begun to happen yet, but now we know where we're headed and it feels good.

Viva la Mexico!

Back to Black

Alek recently did a post on black couches that turned my eye toward black accents. When done right, I think they can be rather sleek and sophisticated rather than mancave-like.

You know I love my bright whites, but what do you think? Do you dare go dark?

On Vacation With... Rand from Thistle & Clover

Bonjour Coco & Kelley or should I say adieu!?

My boyfriend and I are going to be jetting off to Scandinavia this Sunday to celebrate his finishing the Bar Exam! As co-owner of Brooklyn Boutique Thistle & Clover, I can't help but view every vacation as an opportunity to hunt for small, undiscovered treasures for the shop. Our store currently carries up and coming fashion labels such as Dace, Lily & Jae (pictured below!), Sunner, Wren and Lewis NYC. However, Camilla and I are always on the lookout for exciting new design talent.
I have to say, I'm extra excited for my impending trip to Sweden, since Stockholm is basically THE home of alternative fashion. After all, Acne pretty much invented the skinny jean! While in Stockholm, I hope to take in the scenery, scour the streets for under-the radar fashion labels, and hopefully, go to a couple romantic dinners with my bf in simple, flowy, date-night dresses! I couldn't be more excited about my trip. The icing on the cake? Guest blogging for the gorgeous Cassandra LaValle of course!
I've created this small image bank preview of what I hope the trip has in store for me. Upon my return, I'll be posting a Thistle & Clover, does Stockholm mini-guide for Coco & Kelley. Hope you enjoy the pics!
