Wedding {Whites} Wednesday

What do you get when you add fabulous layers of feathers, tulle, and sweet petals? Amazing wedding drama, be it on your head or headed to your stomach! I've long been a fan of Twigs and Honey wedding hair accessories - they take a bridal look to another level.

Do you dare put something so lovely on cake? If they look as delicious as these flower pieces, you just might have to.

Of course, I couldn't commit to one direction for this post though. While I do love my bridal whites, I'm still a sucker for soft palettes, especially when they're in the form of a wedding cake of cheese! Now I'm really in heaven.

INTERIORS TO INSPIRE: GENTLE CONTRASTS

Hello darlings! Julie here from Chapman Interiors bringing you the softest, most ethereal home tour yet. Beauty abounds as warm light floods into this Brooklyn Townhouse designed by Tom Scheerer. The mood is quiet and calm. Reserved and collected. A tailored eye creates small vignettes of carefully collected art and furnishings throughout the home while the buttery paint reflects the warm light and is a perfect backdrop for darker wood accents.

I'm kind of dying over the mirrored sconces flanking the incredible carved fireplace. (Perhaps we could recreate that look with a traditional sconce and have a mirror custom made to fit?... ohhh yes.. I think so...) The sofa's lines are like a ribbon wrapping around its lucky guest. I love the surprise of the straight mirror to the ceiling; it carries your eye up to the detailed crown and adds a dash of modernity.

A pair of benches set a casual vibe in this classical room, and the dining table's reflective surface lets light dance around freely. There are an abundance of textures here; high gloss table, leather benches, carved marble, sea grass window treatments... it's all here, and it's all amazing!

Loving the delicate dots on the drapes paired with the silhouette of the side chair and traditional table. The circle pattern from the drapes seems to be echoed in the lantern living underneath the table. (fabric on right is Schumacher's Ripple Effect.)

Ahhh, the bedroom. The steely blue drapes reveal a feminine space; the light is captured here again by avoiding the use of a bed skirt and letting the sunshine seep under the bed and peek out the other side. A tall four-poster bed and drapes leading to the ceiling enhance the architecture's height and drama.

This may very well be my favorite room in the house. The woven bench and vibrant rug play so well with the modern headboard and white linens (plus that cobalt blue has certainly been catching my eye lately). Fresh flowers always add a little home comfort to a room, too! (fabric on left is Schmacher's Emilie Cachemire.)

Let's review the basic elements here:

* A soft creamy palette and rooms filled with architectural details.
* Casegoods in darker wood for contrast.
* Upholstered pieces in natural woven materials and often solid (think burlap, linen, cotton).
* A few modern pieces and textiles keep the space feeling current.
* Steeped with natural textures and friendly potted plants.
* Vignettes of collections throughout.

An inspired selection would look like this...

This approach is perfect for the person who wants to display their collections without feeling cluttered. Texture and contrast keep the space dynamic. Furniture is comfortable and pieces span various decades of style, yet it all works together because of the soft color palette and natural materials. This is one of my favorite and most inspiring homes yet!

xoxo

Monday Work Wear {Too Cool for School}

As so many people head back to class and we officially say goodbye to summer, at least we get to usher in the joys of fall fashion! As you may have noticed, I've already been coveting it for weeks, and now I can make it official.

These straight off the street looks are definitely wetting my whistle for a few new additions to my fall wardrobe.

COCKTAILS AT SIX: THE FIG THYME MARTINI

When one decides to throw a little impromptu evening get together, there should still be a sense of ambiance (if not an outright theme!) & ample finger foods within reach to woo your guests. Something with a little flair, a little out of the ordinary.

This loose theme started innocently enough as the fresh figs caught my eye at Whole Foods. The figs reminded me of all the pretty summer braided up-dos I've been eyeing. Then the braids led to thoughts of filmy white summer dresses that hint of the bygone days of Greece & Rome. Before I knew it I was led back to my original train of thought: to throw a little soiree centered around fresh, sweet figs, honey & other luscious treats of the ancient empires that have stood the test of entertaining time. Braided up-do optional.

The Fig Thyme served martini-style (isn't it pretty?!)

1 fig quartered, plus 1 extra for garnish

1/2 oz. thyme simple syrup (see below)

1/2 oz. fresh lime juice

1 1/2 oz. pisco

1/4 oz. Cointreau

Sprig of thyme for garnish

In a mixing glass, muddle the quartered fig with the thyme syrup. Top with ice and add the lime juice, pisco, and Cointreau. Shake until cold. Strain into a chilled cocktail glass. Garnish with the remaining quartered fig & a sprig of thyme.

Thyme Syrup

1 cup sugar

1 1/2 cups water

5-6 thyme sprigs

In a saucepan, add the thyme to the sugar & water and simmer gently for 15 to 20 minutes. Cool, strain through a sieve, transfer to a bottle, and refrigerate for up to 2 weeks.

Extra figs? Whip up Fig & Goat Cheese Pitas for a crowd!

FNO... YOU WANNA GO?

So, I'm curious... how many of my NYC readers have experienced Fashion's Night Out? It's one of those events that I can't quite grasp but am totally intrigued by. Insane shopping, access to incredible designers, celebrity appearances and ... well ... a whole lot of hullabaloo. It sounds glamorous and insane all at the same time! So, given the chance to go... I'd absolutely jump at the opportunity. Wouldn't you?
FNO blog image
Well, here on the west coast, we'll be participating in a Fashion's Night Out of our own at The Bravern in Bellevue! I'm excited to see how the event will turn out, but even more excited by the fact that they're also giving away a trip to attend the event in NYC! To enter, head over to The Bravern Facebook Page and click on their Sweepstakes button.

For those of you in the area, I hope to see you at the Bravern on September 10th!

FANTASY TO FÊTE: SPAHHH...

Inhale & exhale, my dears...today is about indulging in some serious tranquility. Camille from Style Notes, here with the latest edition in our Fantasy to Fête series.
Spa Party Inspiration Board-Camille Styles Events
Today's mood board is inspired by crashing waves, sea glass bottles and salty air, all in serene shades of emerald & sky. This "fantasy" has all the makings of the perfect spa party; an afternoon of pampering with a few of your besties. Serve up a menu of at-home spa services: manicures, massages & good old-fashioned cooling cucumbers over the eyes. Add light, seasonal snacks & fruit smoothie shots, and you've got the makings of an unforgettable bridal shower or birthday party.
Orchids-Spa Party-Camille Styles Events
White orchids can't be beat for their modern, striking simplicity (don't they just make you want to say OM?) Create a comforting haven with soft lighting and flickering votives scattered about the room.
Oil & Loofah-Spa Party-Camille Styles Events
Set up a narrow table with a chair on either side as a manicure station, and either hire a pro or DIY and take turns playing nail technician. To really bring on the pampering, hire a couple of masseuses to do full body massages in separate rooms, or ask them to circulate casually and give neck and shoulder massages.
Smoothies-Spa Party Images-Camille Styles Events
Ask guests to bring robes to slip on and get comfortable, and provide flip flops as party favors. Fruit smoothies in shot glasses are a yummy way to detox and are extra dainty served in shot glasses. Get the healthy recipes for raspberry-vanilla & citrus cream smoothies.
Soup-Spa Party-Camille Styles Events
Treat your friends to a seasonal menu that will leave them feeling as pampered as they look. Lemony asparagus soup served in tea cups; curried chicken wraps sliced into little pinwheels, & a trio of fruity sorbets are light & refreshing. (Get the full menu with recipes here.)

RUNWAY RIGHT NOW: NINA RICCI RESORT

I used to try and cover all the runway shows as they happened here on coco+kelley... talk about fashion overload! Not only did it take hours to sort through all the looks and put them together, but I found that looking at designer after designer left me a little jaded. Until the day I'm actually attending Fashion Week, I think I'll put those type of posts behind me!
 ninaricci1
Instead, I've gotten in the habit of looking back at the recent shows with fresh eyes and pulling out the styles that I'm feeling in moment. Today? I'm loving Nina Ricci Resort 2011 as my late summer wardrobe inspiration...
 ninaricci2
Beautifully layered looks that account for that brisk morning chill we've been having followed by loads of afternoon sunshine...
 ninaricci32
And dresses that strike just that right chord between sassy and lovely.
 ninaricci4
And that rich raspberry tone leading into fall? Perfection. As an aside, you know how we're always saying how much we love blushing pink walls in homes because they're so complimentary? Yeah...
