I've always wanted to throw a Kentucky Derby party... mint juleps, big hats, and my favorite color...
If you happen to be throwing a party, here are a few last-minute ideas from a Kentucky Derby Party I helped create a few years ago working with Kelley Moore for Seattle Magazine.
A chartreuse green and pale blue were the colors chosen for the party, with a horseshoe theme that started in the invitation and carried throughout the event.
Mint julep cups were etched with horseshoes and scattered down the table, which was topped with a soft blue and white seersucker linen purchased at the local fabric store. Each guest received a mini horseshoe game as a gift, packaged with chartreuse green crepe paper, layered ribbon, and a horseshoe charm glued to the top.
Amongst the floral arrangements were two horses, flanking each end of the table and styled with a beautiful paper flower winner's garland. The napkins were tied with a suede ribbon that was interlaced with wax ribbon, with a lucky horseshoe charm woven in. Isn't it a fresh and fun setting? Now, how 'bout that mint julep?
