The store holds a seasonal Open Call (the next one is May12th!) where undiscovered up-and-comers are invited to present their collections to the store. This means that customers can find looks from a designer’s first-ever collection, and, often, pieces exclusive to T&C. I can't wait to see what they have in store for us!
It’s one thing when you pick up a top and you know it’s special because of the cut, or the quality of the fabric. But it’s quite another thing to pick up that same top and understand the designer’s background and history. We’re both attracted to collections with a story behind them. If you walk into our store and ask us about a dress, we’ll not only be able to tell you how its sized, but also the designer’s style icons and influences, where they went to school, and how they started their line.
Below is a list of our top 5 styles that are designed to get you through the infamously dicey landscape of late spring transition dressing. Mix in some classic separates and voila!, you’ve got your own take on a new spring/summer trend. We hope you enjoy! xoxo
Rand & Camilla's Top Styles for the Season from Thistle & Clover
*1. The Perfect Trench: Dressing for the spring can be tricky; you need to be prepared at all times for erratic (and increasingly bizarre—90 degrees in April!?) changes in temperature. A glamorous but functional spring trench is your best “fair weather friend.” We love Wren’s take on lightweight outerwear. She really nails it with the elegant tailoring and infuses her coats with quirky details. How cute is this preppy striped silk lining?
*2. The Day Dress: Eskell’s pretty prints perfectly capture that prairie girl vibe that you’ve been seeing all over the editorial storyboards of Vogue, Harper’s Bazaar and Elle. A line currently exclusive to T&C, and recently profiled by Daily Candy, is Edelweiss by Sarah Seilbach. Her dresses make you look elegant and pretty without feeling overdressed. They’re perfect for early summer night drinks at a West Village wine bar. This pretty Dace number has casual-cool written all over it. It sets our hearts aflutter!
*3. Something Lacy: Whenever editors and stylists start scouring the runways for new trends, they invariably look to Miuccia Prada. Many of you will remember the Fall 2008 runway show where Prada debuted her lace skirts and sheath dresses. Well, we just love how those runway looks have been interpreted by the contemporary collections. We like ours in pretty romantic palettes as seen in the appliqués on Church & State’s “Quatre” dress, or in hand-dyed, brightly hued headbands from the trio behind Teeny House Bunny.
*4. Layering Jewelry: Having a few pieces of pretty gold jewelry polishes off your head-to-toe look. We suggest pulling and layering from a few of your favorite jewelry designers. Be playful with both modern and period pieces; sometimes the most unlikely pairing can make the best marriage! We’ve chosen Poupette’s rose/yellow 14K gold combo feather necklace to be paired with Rebecka Fröberg’s 10K gold cloudberry necklace. We love how the 2 different chain lengths complement one another.
Style tip: If you are worried about overdoing it, take it from Coco—before leaving the house, remove an item.
*5. The Easy Spring Sandal: Late spring is the beginning of pedicure season, and it’s no mystery why. The suede thong lets you show off your fave new Essie color while allowing you the ability to navigate NYC’s sidewalks with ease and comfort. A little splash of color, like these Marais USA emerald colored sandals, amps up your outfit’s fun factor.
I think that trench just moved to the top of my wishlist girls! What a great shop - I can't wait to visit the next time I'm on the right coast!
