Most of you have probably seen the awesomeness that is Nicole's blog Making It Lovely. This woman is amazing at putting together her posts, showing readers step by step how she transforms the spaces in her home, making them more then lovely, but accessible too! So when she offered up her closet as a part of this series, I had to share.
This is Nicole's closet - a freestanding wardrobe from Ikea that allows you to create exactly what you need.
And this is Nicole's plant of attack for her closet! This is exactly what I was talking about yesterday when I said think about your needs before creating your custom space. Make sure you've thought of everything you want to put in your space, and then draw it out, or have a professional help you do it.
These sketches from House Beautiful help give you an idea of some different ways to design your closet...
Now, while Nicole's closet is light and fresh, don't think that Ikea can't give you dark and glam...
This is Victoria's closet from Design Ties. These are the same PAX wardrobes that Nicole used, with a different finish and hardware, and the addition of the mirrored door to break up the heaviness of the wood.
Here's the closet all opened up - plenty of space for everything! Can we say jealous??
While built-ins may not be an option for you renters, there are many closet systems from Ikea, the Container Store, and other places that aren't permanent. You can still do some minor 'construction' to your closet by adding shelving and storage that you can take with you when you move!
